News & Views | Vadnais Heights Lead Service Line Inventory The City of Vadnais Heights is conducting a lead service line inventory, as required for all public water supply systems. A service line is the privately owned pipe connecting the interior plumbing of a building to the publicly owned water main. Lead service lines were banned in Minnesota on January 1, 1985. The City has partnered with the engineering firm SEH to develop the inventory, documenting the location and material of all service lines. There is no safe level of lead, and developing a lead service line inventory is the first step toward replacing any lead service lines in the City's water system. Residents will have received a letter outlining two options for completing the service line inventory. The first, residents can scan the QR code, or go to the website listed on the letter they received and complete the form - have your water billing account number handy. If follow up is needed you will be contacted. The second is for residents to call SEH and schedule an appointment to have a technician perform the inspection within your home, or business. In between appointments SEH staff are door knocking to perform inspections, and you may see them around. Work will include native plant care, invasive species removal, and other projects to maintain habitat in wilder spaces. Sign up to be included in the Parks Steward Volunteer Pool and you'll be contacted as volunteer opportunities arise. No experience is required to join; volunteers will be provided with tools and training. Events are typically two to three hours in length and will involve travelling on rough terrain.
