News & Views | Vadnais Heights Smart Salting Road salt permanently damages wildlife, rusts cars, and kills plants. One teaspoon of salt pollutes five gallons of water. Ice rinks at Westfield and Community Parks are coming up. Go to cityvadnaisheights.com/ice for updates on when they'll be open. f Food Shelves The Vadnais Heights Lions Club Foundation runs a monthly food shelf. Distributions are the third Saturday of every month at the Vadnais Heights Commons, 655 East County Road F. The Food Shelf is open for extended hours in December from 9-11 a.m. Distribution of food is allowed to families considered lower income; qualifying individuals can register day-of. For donations make checks payable to the Vadnais Heights Lions Club Foundation and drop off or mail c/o Vadnais Heights City Hall. Monetary donations allow food shelves to take advantage of special pricing and fill gaps from donations. Wish-list items include pantry staples, peanut butter, baby items, beverages, after-school type, personal care and cleaning items. The White Bear Area Food Shelf is also available for those in need. Curb-side and community market instructions are available online. For those donating, use the donation match and the wish-list of items. Holidays Fire Safety The National Fire Prevention Association notes the increase in home fires during Christmas.
