News & Views A bi-weekly section where readers will be informed on subjects of seasonal interest, upcoming events and other timely topics. CLERK'S CORNER - Greetings from the Township! First of all, I want to take a minute to thank everyone for participating in this year's Township clean-up day, residents & vendors! I will eventually receive solid numbers, but I am pretty sure we will be pushing a record in tons of trash being removed. With summer just around the corner, a couple reminders; make sure you are watching your irrigation as we are still under scrutiny through the lake level lawsuit. As wet as things have been here in the early going, the necessity should be less. Also, Movies in Polar Lakes Park begin as well! Check the Township's website for days and times. MATTRESS RECYCLING PROGRAM Second Chance Recycling to offer free curbside recycling of mattresses, box springs, & metal bed frames on Tuesdays & Thursdays for the month of June. Each household can recycle up to four mattresses. Please note that registration must be completed online. Mechanical & footboards beds, headboards, are not accepted. Traditionally, mattresses are disposed of & sent to the landfill. Once a mattress has been crushed, it is no longer recyclable. If recycled, approximately 82% of a mattress can be recycled. This opportunity is one way that you can help the environment. The link to register for this program can be found on our website. ILLICIT DISCHARGE REMINDER WHITE BEAR TOWNSHIP to the storm sewer system that is not composed entirely of stormwater. A few examples of illicit discharge include oil, trash, grass, dirt, leaves, or cigarette butts. These non-stormwater discharges may also occur due to illegal connections to the storm drain system from business or commercial establishments. These illicit connections may result in contaminated wastewater entering local water bodies via the storm sewer system. Untreated, these discharges contribute resources. Please report any illicit discharges to Jami Philip at 651.747.2764.
